  • Salher is the highest fort in Maharashtra which offers spectacular views of the Baglan mountain range in Nashik. This fort has a good historic importance. You can plan for a two days trek in which you can stay on Salher fort for a night and then go to Salota [twin fort] the next morning. A ridge connects both the forts and the route is pretty simple.
Salher fort was under Shivaji Maharajs rule during the 16th century. The fight between the Mughals and Shivaji Maharaj was fought at Salher in which almost 1 lakh soldiers died and Shivaji Maharaj finally won the battle. Later Salher was under the rule of the Peshwas and then the British Empire in India.
