Pawangad was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1673. For the completion of this responsibility very well, He gave award of 5000 Hones each to army officers Hiroji Frajad and Arjoji Yadav. in 1844 along with Panhala, British army also destroyed Pawangad. 2 entrances were destroyed completely by them. This fort is completely ignored by everyone except some couples. As this is built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, importance of the fort is different. but problem is that nobody knows about the fort, then how one could approach here.
Pavangad Fort (Panhala Mahal), stands on the Panhala spur about half a mile east of the Panhala fort from which it is separated by a ravine. The chief defence of the fort is a scarped rock fifteen to twenty-five feet high. In most places the steepness of the rock has been increased by artificial scarping and it has been strengthened by a parapet wall of black stone fourteen feet high. This parapet wall has collapsed at many places. The two main entrances were pulled down in 1844 when the fort was dismantled. The fort though deserted has a good water supply.
